A Coruña, 13 March 2025. As part of its commitment to achieving operational excellence, INCOGA has successfully implemented the 5S Project at its headquarters in A Coruña.
Originating in Japan, the 5S methodology is a powerful workplace management and organisation technique that helps create safer, more productive spaces focused on continuous improvement, fostering a strong organisational culture that optimises processes and maximises long-term results.
The five pillars of the 5S method
The 5S project has been divided into five sequential phases, each of which focuses on improving a specific aspect of the working environment and contributing to the organisation’s overall well-being:
· Seiri (Sort): the first step in the process involved separating the necessary from the unnecessary, discarding anything that did not add value. As a result, key areas were freed up and are now used more efficiently.
· Seiton (Set in Order): the necessary items were organised in a logical and accessible manner, making it easier to locate and quickly access tools, documents and equipment. Thanks to a clear labelling and location system, work processes became smoother and faster, reducing search times.
· Seiso (Clean): a phase focused on a thorough clean of all areas of the company, not only in terms of appearance, but also in terms of eliminating potential sources of contamination or hazards. This contributed to a safer and healthier working environment for everyone.
· Seiketsu (Standardise): standards and daily practices were established to ensure that workspaces remained tidy and clean. This included the creation of clear procedures, as well as ongoing training for staff on best practices for cleanliness and tidiness.
· Shitsuke (Sustain): with the aim of maintaining the order achieved, this final phase focused on establishing daily routines and regular inspections.
Key benefits achieved
After weeks of hard work, dedication and teamwork, the company has successfully completed the 5S Project, achieving significant benefits:
· Improved operational efficiency: Sorting and organising the workspace has enabled us to streamline internal processes, making it quicker to access the documents and resources needed for day-to-day tasks.
· Increased productivity: The tidier and cleaner working environment has improved the concentration and focus of the INCOGA team, leading to a notable increase in overall productivity.
· Improved workplace safety and wellbeing: The cleaning and organisation initiatives have also helped to reduce the risk of accidents in the offices, ensuring a safer environment.
· Significant achievements in sustainability: A systematic process for waste sorting and management has been established, helping to reduce the company’s environmental footprint. Furthermore, INCOGA has launched a recycling programme for obsolete electronic equipment, through which it has already managed to recycle over 200 kg of devices such as computers, printers and mobile phones.
The future of the 5S approach at INCOGA
The implementation of the 5S project was just the beginning; these principles are now a fundamental part of INCOGA’s organisational culture.
Building on the success of this project, the company is reinforcing its commitment to operational excellence through innovation, efficiency and sustainability, always seeking new ways to improve its processes and contribute to the well-being of the community.
