Irving Penn: Centennial exhibition space - MOP Foundation

2024 A Coruña

Irving Penn: Centennial, the latest initiative from the iconic MOP Exhibition Centre located in the Port of A Coruña. Organised by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Irving Penn Foundation, the exhibition offers a journey through the legendary photographer's more than 70-year career.

With its sober, elegant and functional architecture, the complex features various decorative sculptural elements that refer to the essence of the author.

INCOGA was responsible for adapting the existing space to house this new exhibition, taking the utmost care with every detail throughout all phases of its implementation. Among the most notable work carried out by INCOGA was the development and installation of a large, original and innovative awning in the central area of the complex. This symbolic piece, representing the artist's portable photographic studio, posed a real technical challenge for the construction company. Its complexity lay in the difference in scale compared to the original, as well as its outdoor location near the sea, which added a significant technical difficulty when it came to bringing the initial idea to life.

This unique exhibition is complemented by a spectacular specialised bookshop with more than 5,000 books on different subjects. Comprising a curved modular metal structure and a spectacular spiral staircase that allows visitors to ascend the silo in which it is located, The Book Store was designed and built entirely by INCOGA.

Architecture: Elsa Urquijo
